College campus in the Bay Area

When You Move to The Bay Area For College

Berkeley, Stanford, The University of San Francisco, San Francisco State University: The Bay Area is home to some of the best colleges in the country. From the Berkeley Hills, to the pristine views in Palo Alto, you’ve made a good decision to spend the next few years studying in Northern California. Universities in the area offer a lot more when it comes to culture and the overall college experience than most nationwide. You’re not stuck in the middle of rolling plains and cornfields like some of your friends. You’re in one of the most exciting and innovative cities in the world. We’ve helped move tons of college students into their housing, and know you have an exciting adventure ahead. Here’s what you have to look forward to:

You’ll Eat Amazing Mexican Food

There’s no shortage of burritos, tacos and quesadillas when you move to the Bay Area for college. Thanks to its Mexican roots, there are endless hole-in-the-wall burrito joints to satisfy your cravings. The good news is they’re affordable–even in the city. Check out El Farolito, The Little Chihuahua, La Taqueria and more in the Mission neighborhood. You won’t be disappointed. And you’ll be grateful you’re not bound to crappy cafeteria food.

You’ll Become Very Outdoorsy

Most people in The Bay flock to local state and national parks on the weekends. If you don’t have any outdoor experience yet, you will find that in little time you’ll become a hiking enthusiast. This means you should probably consider paying a visit to REI and investing in good hiking shoes if you don’t have them already. With Yosemite a 3-hour driven away, and the Redwood Trees up north, immersing yourself in nature will soon become a regular activity.

You’ll Learn to Love The San Francisco Fog

Moving to Northern California doesn’t mean you’re going to spend all year in shorts and a t-shirt. Karl the Fog (what locals call the fog) tends to frequently cool down the city–especially in the summer. If you spend a summer here you will realize that while your friends are snapping and Instagram-ing their days at the pool, you’re wearing your winter jacket outside. It’s OK though because you don’t have to deal with cold winters. That’s worth something, right? This does mean before leaving your dorm or apartment though, you should always bring a sweater or jacket. The weather in the Bay can change in a minute’s notice. It’s all about layers here.

You’ll Have Great Internship Opportunities

The San Francisco Bay Area is a thriving hub for technology, non-profits, finance, and art. This is a great place to be while you figure out your career path. Internships are available in almost every industry, and companies are always looking for students to help year-round. This really is just a teaser for the amazing experience you can expect to have when you go to college in the Bay Area. You’ve made a wise choice!
