Tips on How to Organize Holiday Decorations

The winter holidays are around the corner, which means it’s time to pull out all of those fun holiday decorations. This is an exciting time where homeowners can get creative with each holiday while decorating the interior and exterior of their homes with bright lights, fake snow, gorgeous wreaths and more. But of course, before you decorate you need to unpack and repack your decorations. Here are a few helpful tips on how to keep them organized this season.

Have a Place to Store Your Decorations

The first important key to staying organized is having a designated spot to store your holiday decorations while they aren’t being used. You can store them in a closet, basement, attic, or use an on-demand storage service like ours. We’ll pick up and deliver the containers where your decorations are stored whenever is most convenient for you.

Label Each Container

In order to stay organized, make sure each container is labeled by holiday and items. All of your decorations may be able to fit in one container, depending on how many you have. If that’s the case you can organize by holiday or item in separate bags within the container.

Group Items By Season

In addition to properly labeling your containers, make sure your decorations are grouped together by each season and holiday. This will make your life much easier and keep you from having to rummage through unnecessary containers with decorations for the wrong holiday.

Do a Cleanse After Each Holiday

Once the holiday in which you’ve decorated for has come and gone, return the decorations to its proper container. This shouldn’t be done without a really good purge though. If there are decorations that didn’t make the cut this year, ask yourself if you really need them. Similar to other items in our lives, decorations have a tendency to accumulate. Decide which ones to keep and which ones are OK to toss out. You can also read our article on How to Mindfully Toss Your Items if you’re unsure on which ones to throw away. The holidays are exciting for many reasons–like decorating. Decorating your home should be an enjoyable experience. Don’t let it be something that overwhelms you. Follow the simple tips above to make it a great holiday-decorating season.
